How to upgrade operating system (OS) on my BlackBerry

1. Download New BlackBerry OS Software
Download the new BlackBerry OS and save it to your PC. To determine what OS version you’re currently running, go to Options and select About. Your OS version will be shown as number after a lowercase V (v4.6.0.228) on the first screen. You can also get your OS version by hitting ALT, SHIFT and the letter H.

2. Install New OS Software to your PC
When you have OS installation file on your PC double click on it and follow installation instructions. When this is done make sure you don’t have your Desktop Manager opened and that your phone is not yet connected to your PC.

3. Upgrade OS on your BlackBerry
Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research in Motion\Shared\Loader Files (in case of 64bit you will find it under C:\Program Files (x86)\Common…) and delete “Vendor.xml”! In the same folder start file (double click) “Loader.exe”. By default Loader.exe will backup and restore your settings!

Whole installation takes about 45 minutes and you shouldn’t unplug your BlackBerry in that time or take battery out! When installation is done you will notice that your BlackBerry takes more time to boot for the first time than usual.

When booted you’re done! You have new OS on your device!
